Abstract
This paper presents a high power factor electronic ballast, with a single power stage, feeding two 40 W lamps. The boost converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is used for power factor correction. Coupled inductors allow the voltage inversion on the output series-parallel resonant circuit and consequently at lamps, and a circuit for minimization the voltage stress on the switches, caused by the leakage inductance, is presented. An experimental prototype that operates in 50 kHz was implemented. Experimental results confirm operation of the proposed converter.
