Abstract
Limit superior/inferior in probability are fundamental tools for the information spectrum method developed by Han and Verdú, where there is no restriction on the source or channel such as stationarity. The equivalent expressions of these limits are derived and alternative formulas for the fundamental limits of source coding, uniform random number generation, and channel coding are introduced.
