Abstract :
We report the synthesis and self-assembly of a thiol functionalised terpyridine on atomically flat gold. The thiol functionalised terpyridine is synthesised in two steps from the bromo-functionalised terpyridine. Cyclic voltammetry was used to study the surface coverage on a gold electrode. Using Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy (STM) we detected pin-hole shapes characteristic of surface adsorbed thiols.
