Title :
The DAQ and online system of the PHENIX experiment at RHIC

Abstract :
PHENIX is one of two large experiments at Brookhaven National Laboratory´s Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The preparations for the Run 4, which is expected to enter physics running mode in January of 2004, are underway. In addition to adding new detectors, we have upgraded the data acquisition system to handle a sustained logging rate of almost 300 MB/s, in addition to a new data compression scheme which will roughly double the number of events which fit into a given bandwidth budget. Compared to the previous run that finished in 2003, both upgrades combined will increase the data logging capability by a factor of 4.
