Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the capacity and spatial correlation properties of MIMO system where polarized antenna elements are adopted at both the BS and the MS sides. We use the spatial channel model (SCM) proposed by 3GPP as the basic model for the analysis and the simulation. Capacity and spatial correlation of the polarized MIMO systems are compared with that of omnidirectional antenna MIMO systems. We also give some suggestions on the improvement of the current SCM model. Simulation results confirm that adopting polarized antennas can bring positive effects on the capacity of MIMO systems under certain conditions.
