Abstract :
PCS is often identified with mobile/cellular systems, e.g. DCS1800 (sometimes referred to as PCN, it is a standard for GSM on 1800 MHz). Personal Communications Systems aiming for a broad subscriber basis must however comprise many systems (existing and future). As cordless system provides very high capacity (DECT ≈ 10,000 Erlang/km/2floor), they are likely to be considerable part of PCS. Advanced cordless systems as DECT (Digital European Cordless Telecommunications) are easy to adapt to and integrate with other systems as ISDN, GSM, PSTN etc. This paper describes the main features and applications of DECT and the concept of "profiles" in DECT facilitating a deep integration with other systems
