  • Abstract
This paper studies a single carrier block transmission system with scattered pilot symbols to obtain high spectral efficiency and power efficiency. This system suppresses peak power and pilot insertion ratio by inserting the pilot symbol at intervals of two subcarriers. In addition, the timing synchronization scheme suitable for the frame format is also introduced. While the proposed system uses pilot multiplexed with data in a block, the receiver can obtain precise timing information from the received pilot signals. We have implemented a hardware prototype and evaluated the system with the 2×4 1024QAM MIMO transmission. The results show that the system reduces PAPR compared with OFDM scheme and can achieve a good BER performance even in rapid frequency selective fading channel with normalized Doppler frequency of greater than 1%.
