Abstract
A novel intelligent hub architecture is proposed dedicated to the IEEE 1394 serial bus standard. The proposed architecture, which divides an IEEE 1394 bus into several segments, increases the total transmission bandwidth of the bus, preventing interruption of data transmission caused by bus reset propagation. The hub architecture is not only compliant with the IEEE 1394.1 bus bridge standard but also capable of connecting "legacy" IEEE 1394 devices which are not supported by IEEE 1394.1
