Abstract :
The geometric illusions are interesting phenomena when dealing with one´s ability of spatial recognition of the human being. In the engineering purpose, it is often assumed that the illusion occurs on the retina level. However, there are parts that do not agree with the psychological or physiological knowledge, indicating the participation of the higher perception area of the cortex to the illusion. In this paper, we propose a model, based on the function of the cells within the higher perception area of the cerebral cortex, to interpret the geometric illusion as the result of the interaction among lines in the figure. We also demonstrate the occurrence of the geometric illusion using the proposed model by the computer simulation
