Abstract :
With 18 fatal road accidents per day and a population of 27million, Saudi Arabia experiences five times the road deaths of its European counterparts. Issues such as a migrant population of over 20% also present huge problems for traffic management and security. The ATVAM program (Automated Traffic Violations Administering and Monitoring) is tackling these issues with an unprecedented investment estimated at over $1.5Bn in ITS systems countrywide over a 6 year period. The program is integrating law enforcement, traffic management and security systems to improve traffic safety & mobility in the Kingdom.
