  • Abstract
This paper deals with the high voltage on-site testing of GIL. After a description of the general design and insulating system the IEC recommendations for on-site testing are listed. AC testing and tests with impulse voltage are described. The front duration of applied impulse voltage must be adjusted to the length of GIL test sections due to travelling wave phenomena. VFT voltages can be beneficial for testing. The UHF method can be used for PD diagnostics. An example is given for on-site testing of a GIL with a length of 440 m.
