Abstract
A time-interval digitizer has been integrated in a 2-μm BiCMOS technology and shown to provide 0.16-ns RMS (root mean square) timing error with an input range of 0-16 ns and an LSB width of 0.5 ns. The 448 μm × 634 μm circuit is to be part of the monolithic implementation of a high-sensitivity, mixed-signal data acquisition channel for future high-energy physics experiments. Fully differential current-steering circuits are used to minimize switching noise. Circuit blocks are powered down in order to reduce the power dissipation to 33 mW while the circuit is idle
