  • Abstract
This study is part of our attempt to understand the management of technology (MOT) through the lens of dynamic models. Technological evolution creates new products, market opportunities, services, and organizational developments. For chemical firms, in particular, new materials or product developments are the cornerstone of sustainable competitiveness. Effective and dynamic technology management is essential for converting these developments into products of tangible value. MOT has previously been studied in terms of new product development processes, the correspondence between technology and the market, organization theory, leadership, and research and development investment. A new integrated way of understanding MOT that captures its dynamic nature as well as the managerial aspects in needed. We present here a six-dimensional analytical model (based on the physics of the phase transition model) that can be applied to the state of technology management activities with respect to the wider business context. The development of a high-purity ammonia gas business for the blue light-emitting diode industry is used as a case study. The six-dimensional analytical model, which is based on the Ising model, is also applied to the case study. The results of the dynamic model are useful for visualizing the state of the MOT. In addition, the results indicate how to improve the interaction network of the six factors of the MOT in each project.
