            Abstract :
An alternative connectionist paradigm is proposed which sits between the models of the traditional connectionist level and the neural level. The models are termed BRNNMs (biologically realistic neural network models) and are distinguished from previous models by being functionally true to modern neurophysical details. Details of a theoretical framework for the development of the proposed BRNNMs are described to realize a computer implementation. The results of the computer simulation both confirmed the temporal processing ability of these models and demonstrated biologically realistic behavior. Prospects for future work in this area are discussed
