Abstract :
The electrical performance of Air insulated system could be improved by composite gas/polymer insulation. Covered hemisphere-rod and plane electrode has been applied in our study with the purpose of investigating the effect of composite insulated system for an application of switchgears. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of covered length in addition to covered thickness. The results indicated that the effect of covered length was obtained in case of using thinner covered electrode. Moreover, impulse partial discharge light emission image was observed in order to reveal the process from partial discharge inception to breakdown. The result indicated that partial discharge inception occurred on the tip of covered electrode, and that the polarity difference of the process diversified the effect of covered length.
