Abstract :
The characteristics that make the 5ESS International Gateway Exchange unique among the world´s gateways are outlined. A description is given of how the 5ESS Gateway switch functions in the complex international network. The integrated operations and maintenance facilities provided to ensure continuous service of both the switching system and its surrounding network are discussed. The capabilities provided by the switch that support the special services provided by the exchange are also described. Customized traffic data collection and analysis, and display of route status, support assessment of the exchange´s performance, long-term engineering of the switch, and real-time management of the network
