Abstract :
Interest in the study of photon migration through biological tissue was prompted by the rapid development of optical devices used in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic medicine. These optical devices depend upon the behavior of biological tissue in response to irradiation by ultraviolet, infrared and visible light sources. The optical properties of tissue can be studied extensively using computer simulation methods. A Monte Carlo model has been developed to study photon diffusion in a homogeneous diffusive isotropically scattering tissue medium. The depth distribution of the photons within the simulated medium confirms the use of surface optical measurements to access deep tissue optical properties
