Abstract
In working towards a three-dimensional (3-D) polygonal-based surgical planner, we developed an automatic contour extraction algorithm for Computed Tomography (CT) data. The contours were identified by using segmentation, region filling, boundary detection, and contour tracing. Our algorithm produced accurate, closed contours that were used to generate a 3-D polygonal mesh of a biomedical structure
