  • Abstract
    With the proven success of the aircraft black box, Munson proposed the software black box for software fault diagnosis early on. However, current software black boxes ultimately need to divert information to the hard disk from memory. Due to the large difference between the hard disk access speed and the memory run speed critical information on software failure often can not be recorded. Therefore, this paper proposes that the ordinary RAM with backup power supply or nonvolatile random access memory could be used directly as the software black box (SBB), rather than as an intermediary to external memory. This SBB can record the operation information closest to failure time before software failure in real time. It efficiently solves the problem of being unable to restore the fault site on software fault diagnosis, and provides a new method for improving software reliability.
