Abstract :
The differentiated services architecture offers a scalable alternative to provide quality of service to new multimedia applications in the Internet. This paper studies the transport of voice traffic for the expedited forwarding (EF) scheme, which is one of the current proposals in the differentiated services context. The services provided to traffic generated by on-off and CBR sources are compared in terms of delay and jitter. The analysis includes the different algorithms that could implement the EF service, the influence of the number of active flows, and how efficiently each type of traffic uses an extra allocated bandwidth
