Abstract :
Core losses are critical for magnetic component analysis and optimal design. The problems with traditional AC meter test method of core losses are deeply analyzed and the rood cause of its poor accuracy is revealed for higher frequency operation and for powder cores. Some notices are proposed to reduce the errors for AC power meter method. And then a novel method, named as DC power meter method, is presented, which overcomes the error problems caused by large impedance angle of the DUT with AC meter method. A calibration method for DC power meter method is also presented to ensure the core loss accuracy. The novel method is more suitable for the core loss test of powder core and under practical PWM excitations.
