Abstract
Technical challenges concerning microgrids are identified. Differentiation between grid-connected and islanded mode is made, while literature based solutions are presented. The concept of Virtual Grid is introduced and a microgrid model is used as part of a generic Low Voltage Distribution Network. PSCAD/EMTDC and IPSA+ models of the microgrid are utilised for the study of the steady state voltage profile during islanded operation. The main results show no voltage statutory limits violation and the Virtual Grid support proves reliable for the particular circumstances.
