Abstract :
This concept paper describes a WR-22 (41 - 47 GHz) millimeter wave frequency extension adapter, currently under development. for the HP-8409 series VANA. The adapter uses up and down frequency conversion techniques. The local oscillators are phase locked to the 8409 VTO synthesizer 10 MHz reference osillator, to enable a full coherent system. The adapter wi11 enable full vector-connected measurements using both 8 and 12 term error models. It will also measure transmission characteristics of devices that are not colinear. Operation is identified to the standard 8409 using a waveguide calibration kit at frequencies less than 18.0 GHz. The operational capabilities of the standard 8409 over the 0.1 to 18.0 GHz frequency range are undisturbed. This frequency extension adapter is also hardware compatible with the 8542 and 8510 series VANA´s, as well as the manual 8410 network analyzer.
