Abstract :
We analyze capacity limitations in long repeater-less transmission experiments. Combination of self-phase-modulation and inter-channel Raman cross-talk limits useable bandwidth, confining ultimate capacity for the examined design to 32 times 10 Gb/s and 8 times 10 Gb/s channels over 486 km and 505 km, respectively.
