Abstract :
The research results presented in this paper suggest that new information and communication technology (ICT) significantly influences changes in the education of nursing professionals. The results indicate the necessity for UCNSUM (University College of Nursing Studies, University of Maribor) to develop new forms of education which include distance learning and the use of new technology. Activities in this regard should include: intensification of the awareness campaign directed towards UCNSUM and professional nursing associations; qualification of teachers for distance education; additional technological equipping of UCNSUM as a centre for distance education; preparation of UCNSUM´s library for fulfilling the tasks in distance education; and preparation of a pilot project on distance education at UCNSUM in cooperation with the Distant Studies Development Centre at the University of Maribor.
