Abstract :
A bilayer-forming, optically inactive cationic dye mixed with reconstituted bacteriorhodopsin (BR) -lipid vesicle systems showed induced CD bands in its 357-nm absorption band only when BR formed the same hexagonal lattice as in the purple membrane of H, halobium. This lattice-dependent induced CD suggests ordering of the dye on the two-dimensional lattice of BR. A model for interpretation of the induced CD is presented
