Abstract :
Summary form only given. The implementation of quantum logic with neutral atoms requires that they be trapped in such a manner that their atomic coherences are preserved as long as possible as well as being individually addressable. To this end we have employed far-detuned lattices created by a CO, laser beam which provides practically conservative potentials with a lattice spacing given by hco2/2 = 5.3 Pm.
