Abstract :
Summary form only given. Here we report the latest results from the University of New Mexico and Los Alamos National Laboratory collaboration on optical refrigeration in several rare-earth-doped glasses and crystals. These results include the observations of laser-induced fluorescence cooling in a Tm-doped glass and in an Yb-doped crystal (YAG). Additionally, new approaches for trapping the pump power to enhance the absorbed power along with our preliminary experimental realizations of these methods are presented.
