Abstract :
The ability to provide a CT2 radio-over-fiber system employing macro-diversity to support cordless communications via radio distribution points in the local loop is addressed. The functionality of the radio-over-fiber system is described, and with the centralization of the base equipment within a local exchange the implementation of macro-diversity has been simplified. In order to provide quality communication comparable to the PSTN, it is necessary to support macro-diversity clusters to overcome the slow fading or large-scale variation in the radio signal caused by the shadowing from buildings and terrain. The improvement achieved through the use of macro-diversity is demonstrated
