Abstract
For more than 20 years modern developments of auxiliary power converters (APC) for railway applications have focused on demands for low dimensions and mass, higher efficiency and simplified maintenance. Currently under an increasing number of electronic loads, requiring high-quality electric energy and under the ever increasing running distances of locomotives a requirement of high reliability becomes priority. The APC with a new structure for locomotives (PΣ = 16kW) will be considered in the paper; the structure ensures a heightened reliability of the APC, a minimum number of incorporating blocks. A tough regulation on the load and a properly organized charge of an alkaline board battery can go on even if some blocks fail. Modeling and experiments verify this theoretical analysis.
