Abstract :
Spectrum Sharing may permit Personal Communication Networks (PCN) to be deployed in frequency bands already used by existing fixed microwave facilities. Telesis Technologies Laboratory has deployed a DCS 1900 system within the downtown area of San Francisco, an area of high microwave activity. Using a novel combination of modelling and measurements the DCS 1900 system, based on the European GSM standard, is able to operate on a non-interfering basis providing quality voice and data services. The methods used for deployment are examined and a description of the new problems that arise from spectrum sharing are presented
