Abstract :
A business is regarded as an intensely purposive organisation, or a system, with a task of producing an ordered and specific set of properties based on an initial set. The properties can be concrete or abstract leading to an outcome, or a product, for which, in many cases, people are willing to pay. An organisation is seen to consist of others, each contributing to the task. The constituents of an organisation, individuals and their groups, are described as purposive systems with fluctuating characteristics and a large number of requirements and outputs. A symbolism capable of capturing aspects of this complexity and based on natural language as a model of scenarios is described. Linguistic analysis creates a homogeneous language represented as a diagram from which an inferential structure of propositional logic expressions can be deduced. This then enables of propagation of uncertainty as fuzzy sets towards the investigation of the possibility of outcomes. The use of the method in trouble shooting and problem solving is briefly discussed
