Abstract :
SaskTel Mobility has been using an intranet to deliver information internally since late 1995, after first consulting with The Rockley Group to determine that going online was, indeed, the right decision. The author considers how that intranet evolved, from its inception to its current use as the primary information source for all SaskTel Mobility staff. (The presentation also includes some examples from other Rockley Group clients.) It includes these sections: deciding to go online; meeting primary user needs; expanding an intranet to accommodate other users and originators; managing continued growth (establishing guidelines and control); using the intranet as a project management tool. The article doesn´t focus specifically on the technology, e.g. how to write HTML documents and incorporate Java scripting, PERL, CGIs, and cookies, what Web publishing tools to use, and what Web servers to run. Rather, the focus is on using the technology to create an information source
