Abstract :
Repeaterless submarine systems now form an important part of the overall market of submarine cable systems. Recent advances in electrooptic components and transmission techniques will extend the route length and capacity available from these systems. Techniques to overcome fiber loss and dispersion are discussed, and a trial on an installed system is described
