Abstract :
A 565 Mb/s optical transmission system allowing regeneration sections up to 200 km is described. This system has been used to build up, within the Italian Administration (ASST) FESTONI project, a network based on submarine optical fiber cable connecting terrestrial stations without intermediate repeaters. The main design target was to obtain the maximum transmission distance at 565 Mb/s allowed by industrial solutions. Also reported are production results and field test results
