Abstract :
The authors examined the application of the Lager silicon compilation system to implementing an adaptive decision feedback equalizer for digital mobile telephones. The demands of the application in terms of numerical precision and scaling of variables are not yet well known. The hardware parameterization and high-level algorithm specification capability of the Lager system have proved very useful in exploring the trade-offs of the design in developing the complete specification. Additionally, the architectural flexibility of the Lager system allowed the arithmetic unit to be tuned to the algorithm without code changes in the silicon compiler.<>
