Title :
Quality of service mapping and related issues for bridging 1394 and Ethernet

Abstract :
This paper presents the major issues involved in developing a home audio-video network that accommodates both IEEE 1394 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet devices. The two technologies differ on handling audio-video (AV) data streams, and a number of issues arise when transferring AV streams between the two technologies. Notably, 1394 and IP Ethernet have differing implementations for quality of service (QoS) protocols. In order to aid in the conversion between the two technologies, a QoS draft standard currently under consideration in the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is discussed in detail.
