Abstract :
By analyzing regional cultural characteristics of local folk houses based on the site selection principles, general layout methods, architectural plane and section forms, the use of native materials and natural construction methods, etc. the study discusses on ecological strategies for the original ecological vernacular architecture in western Hunan to create comfortable living environment without the dependence on energy. The study summed up the original ecological construction system on local climate-responsive buildings and natural construction technology in native materials, and further proposed the ecological construction system for sustainable architecture as a guidance for low-energy architectural design.
