Abstract :
This paper demonstrates a fuzzy goal programming (FGP) procedure for modeling and solving patrol manpower deployment problems of Metropolitan cities to deterring traffic violations and accidents and thereby reducing accident rate in a traffic control planning horizon. In the proposed approach, the different structural constraints and various relationships involved with patrol manpower deployment problem of traffic control department for measuring the performance of traffic control operations are fuzzily described. In the model formulation of the problem, the nonlinear relationships involved in traffic control system are converted into linear goals by using variable transformation method. Then, the defined fuzzy goals are characterized by their membership functions for measuring the degree of achievement of the aspired goal levels in the deployment planning environment. In the solution process, minsum FGP methodology is used for proper deployment planning in the decision making situation. The case example of the city Kolkata, West Bengal, INDIA is solved.
