Abstract
An introduction to intelligent network (IN) standards activities is presented. The objectives for INs and the business imperatives driving standardization are reviewed. Several key issues affecting the scope of standards for IN are identified. An overview of the standards bodies addressing IN (CCITT, ANSI, ETSI) is provided, and their working relationships with regard to IN are described. The process established for defining standards for increasing sets of IN capabilities is described. A projection is provided on the scope of the IN standards that can be expected in the near term, and some directions for longer-term IN standards are identified
