  • Abstract
A portable analog signal processing unit suitable for ambulatory and in-flight electroencephalogram (EEG) recording is described. The system includes miniature preamplifiers, mounted near the electrodes; amplifiers, filters, and a power supply, in a single unit; and a small FM data recorder. The preamplifier module has a very-low-noise FET input, a high-pass filter, and a differential amplifier with high common mode rejection ratio. The amplifier module consists of an isolation amplifier, a variable-gain amplifier and a bandpass filter, providing subject/ground isolation, additional gain, and antialiasing. With this system, movement, muscle and other recording artifacts are significantly reduced and a high signal-to noise ratio is achieved
