Abstract :
The paper studies the variable permission probability for packet reservation multiple access (PRMA). It also obtains the optimum variable permission probability and proposes new contention procedures in which the permission probability for first transmission is different from those for consequent re-transmissions. The simulation results for PRMA with these new and easy-to-implement contention strategies, show a very promising performance. For comparison reasons, the statistics of the new systems are displayed against the conventional PRMA and an optimum transmission probability which varies due to the contending traffic. In order to concentrate on the contention procedure, we consider a one-type service system (e.g. voice-only system)
