  • Abstract
The paper focuses on heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems dedicated for clean room production plants. The increased energy costs and the awareness of the environmental issues, such as CO2 emissions, prompts the need for increased energy efficiency of such systems. The general aim, therefore, is to increase the energy efficiency of HVAC systems via improved control performance. In this regard, a semi-physical (i.e. grey-box) model of the controlled zone temperature is constructed for subsequent control system analysis. The advantage of such a semi-physical model over both the white-box and black-box approaches is that, whilst it explains the main nonlinear characteristics, important for the control analysis and/or control synthesis, its ease of derivation is comparable to that of the black-box model approach.
