Abstract :
The traditional class room approach of teaching and learning has always had the limitation of not being able to provide personalised learning content that would meet the individual needs of each learner. E-learning technologies have the potential of being designed to give the learner the appropriate content in line with the learner´s personal information requirements. We explore theories of knowledge construction and how they can be supported through e-learning and look at the approaches of personalisation that can be adopted based on the psychological attributes of learner. This forms a basis for extending, designing and developing a conceptual model of how learning content can be structured using learning objects for a content management system to enable personalisation of the learning content.
