Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is an important maintenance strategy for modern manufacturing enterprises and provides significant cost benefits. However, it is difficult to apply the strategy in real industry applications because the CBM development process usually requires dynamic integration of a variety of hardware and software components, which may be developed by different vendors in a distributed way. In this paper, a flexible framework is proposed to reduce the development complexity of CBM systems as much as possible. The framework defines a decoupled communication model which enables that CBM modules are constructed independently and are integrated dynamically. According to the framework, developers concentrate on the functional logic of CBM modules rather than non-functional aspects, such as the troublesome communication management problem and the tedious configuration management problem, and thus the development time is significantly shortened.
