Abstract :
An X-band high power pulsed amplifier with high efficiency based on radial waveguide spatial combining technique is designed and implemented in this paper. A maximum pulsed peak power level of 208.9 W at the frequency 9.85 GHz was observed, under the condition of 4 KHz pulse repeat frequency (PRF) and 10% of duty cycle. Key features of this combined solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) are its maximum power added efficiency (PAE) (>;43.6%) and active combining efficiency (>;92.8%). From 9.5 to 10.5 GHz, the pulsed power amplifier (PA) can provide a minimum output power level 138 W. The gain varied between 41.4 and 43.1 dB at the desired frequency range, with less than ±0.85-dB gain variation. The PAE of the active combiner fluctuated between 36.5% and 43.6% as frequency varied.
