Abstract :
Transformers are important equipments in power system network. Reliability of power supply at consumer end depends on performance of this equipment. Around 1960-80 many new transformers were installed all over the world and they are working satisfactorily even for today. Huge replacement costs can be temporarily avoided by reducing ageing of transformers. This can be achieved by incorporating condition monitoring techniques and provide maintenance whenever needed. Condition monitoring systems are already in use for power transformers, but in case of distribution transformers economical analysis is needed before implementation of condition monitoring systems. This article analyses the economical aspects of distribution transformer with remote condition monitoring system which gives necessary information regarding operational status. Distribution transformer with and without condition monitoring is analyzed in terms of revenue loss to utility as well as consumers and economic life cycle.
