Abstract :
This paper shows a view of the relationship, now closer than ever, between mobile telephony and security. The paper focuses on this relationship as it stands at the moment with regard to its functional nature and the technology involved, and how the relationship will vary in the very near future, when forthcoming technologies will improve and refine the performance of this communication resource. Different aspects of this subject are reviewed, such as high-speed data transmission, the impact of new radio communication standards on "Bluetooth" environments, and the capacity to send and receive TV images from mobile units, etc. The paper attempts not only to offer a vision of the very near future, but also to schematise and clarify the confusion surrounding certain concepts and abbreviations (Wap, Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, 2.5G, 3G, etc.). This paper has been written by Securitas and Ericsson. These companies are world leaders in security services and telecommunication technologies, and their mutual collaboration has given rise to innovations which are ready for immediate application
