Abstract :
This paper considers the problem of resource allocation in a short-range TDMA wireless network. In particular, it proposes and discuss a resource allocation algorithm and associated protocol for enhancing the capacity of a wireless TDMA network handling packetized voice service. The three key requirements of the algorithm were: (i) it should achieve a relatively high capacity enhancement factor (CEF) in a relatively low capacity wireless network, (ii) it should function efficiently and reliably in a distributed (controlled) user environment, and (iii) it should be relatively inexpensive to implement the proposed algorithm and the actual step-by-step implementation protocol had been simulated for a short-range TDMA multipoint radio network using an event-based network simulation package called BONeS. The algorithm was found to give a CEF of over 2.25 for a voice activity factor (VAF) of 0.4 within a delay limit of 20ms in a 16-circuit TDMA system. This algorithm is applicable to TDMA, TDMA/TDM and TDMA/TDD wireless networks
