Abstract :
An interference canceller combining an adaptive array and a maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) that can achieve a path diversity gain, even in low C/I conditions, is proposed. The adaptive array part synthesizes the desired signal and a certain time delayed intersymbol interference (ISI) simultaneously, by employing a new training signal and data sampling timing in the training period. Then a Viterbi equalizer (VE) performs MLSE to obtain path diversity gain. The average bit error rate (BER) performance of the canceller in a quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel with ISI and co-channel interference (CCI) is calculated by computer simulation. The results show that the interference is reduced and that the path diversity gain is obtained at low C/I
